Normand Chaurette: The Queens

The Queens

City Garage is proud to present the U.S. Premiere of a new fantasy drama in which French Canadian playwright Normand Chaurette traces the shifting passions and ambitions of six women drawn from Shakespeare's theatre. As Canadian director Peter Hinton writes: "The Queens is much more than a re-examination of Richard III; it is a revision of history: Shakespeare's queens in a dream of themselves, an imagining of our world through the glass of time. It captures those brilliant flashes of truth just as everything falls down around them. Like dreams themselves, the text plays with our mythologies and assumptions and gives substantial credence to the imagination in the face of injustice. Are the babies alive or dead? Is Anne Dexter real? How did she lose her hands? Why is George sequestered in the storage cellars? All these questions, which are unanswerable, yet full of many possibilities -- all are part of the mystery."
